Beware of Chicken 2: A Xianxia Cultivation Novel

The plot, while being a fun twist on the genre, was not very interesting to me. There was barely any action, barely any drama, and the characters weren't interesting. Being a comedy and little else, it all came down to the humor. The fact that he has the memories of the person who previously inhabited the body makes for a smooth transition into society, so we don’t need to go through awkward encounters and the like. Knowing the social norms makes the whole thing flow so much easier. His body soared through the air. His legs lashed out with strength unknown to his lesser kin. He danced as the Great Master danced. He did breath, as the Great Master drew breath. This was a great continuation for the series as it shifts focus to Tigu and Cai Xiulan's participation in the Dueling Peak's tournament. The pacing felt a little slow in certain parts, specifically dealing with Bi De's crystal, but overall this volume covered a lot of ground.

I love the realization that Jin has that people dont do well as hermits, now that he has a family that has grown with him, both cultivators and spiritual beasts. The characters' interactions, bonding and relationship building is really engaging. I also enjoyed the manga style drawings in the story, which keep the story light and provides visual reinforcement of the storyline. It as interesting seeing the catharsis that Xiulan went through from lost cultivator keeping herself going through duty to a full member of Fa Ram. Some of my fave characters are Tigu, Gou Ren, Yun Ren and Meiling. litRPG (which this novel is not, and I have yet to try properly, that's what the KU free trial is for) How the rice grew. How “nutrients” affect the soil. How things connected in a way it could somehow understand, despite never hearing of such things before.They lapsed into silence working on the carcass. Both of them lost in thought. It didn’t take that long. After they got the skin off they started butchering in earnest. Regardless, the main focus is not power levels, but the relationships the characters form as they help each other, party together, and occasionally trade pointers. It paints a wholesome picture of community and friendship. One thing I've noticed is that hardly any bad things happen for the main characters. This is a novel about things going basically alright.

Bi De prayed that the basis for this dance was not sinister, that the history within the crystal would not tarnish this beautiful image before him. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. But still no pain came. Instead.. There were feelings. Feelings beyond pain. Happiness, contentment, care, respect. There was hurt too. A feeling of profound loss, but determination to continue.Bi De put it out of his mind for the moment as the village approached. They were met with much fanfare.
