The bottom line: Funny, beautifully illustrated, and full of soul, I loved Hocus Pocus: The Illustrated Novelization!

For the first time ever, fans and readers of all ages can enjoy the full story of the immensely popular Hocus Pocus with this deluxe illustrated novelization that shows fans the likes of Max Dennison, the Sanderson Sisters, Binx the cat and other iconic characters as only celebrated, renowned artist Gris Grimly can: in all of their darkly humorous, unique gruesome glory! Al margen de eso, creo que es un libro ideal para quienes amen Hocus Pocus, porque realmente es una preciosura de lectura.

Relive the magic of the cult-classic film Hocus Pocus with an Illustrated Novelization that retells the story of the film, paired with stunning original artwork throughout from Gris Grimly, ahead of the launch of Hocus Pocus 2! Pero cuando me enteré que iba a salir el primer libro ilustrado por el gran Gris Grimly no pude evitar comprarlo. This personally put me in the ultimate Halloween spirit and I loved carving out this bit of time at the end of each day. Hocus Pocus book is just stunning and colourful illustration style mixed of goth Edward Gorey, Tim Burton and characters in expressionism in both dark and light world.

Feels like the movie playing as you read it; had bits not in the movie, along with bits missing from within the movie not in the book. As others have already mentioned in their reviews, the book for the most part is exactly like the movie, with the characters using the same dialog. In general, the book seemed to give Allison a tiny bit more of a part, as a STEM student that Max had admired for awhile before Halloween. I read the novelization of Hocus Pocus a few years ago when the novelization came out with the "sequel book" (the book sequel is completely different form Hocus Pocus 2 the movie).

The story really doesn’t age well, but I’m giving it 4 stars because I absolutely LOVE the illustrations by Gris Grimly. It's a decent novelization, almost word for word and scene for scene, except there were a few added parts to give more depth to the characters. While there were some really cool full-page illustrations in here, they definitely could’ve inserted more here and there, even just smaller illustrations along the bottom of the pages or near the margins. The main reasons I picked up the book was that it would be a nice addition to my personal library and for the illustrations by Gris Grimly. Es como si hubieran copiado el guión de Hocus Pocus y le hubieran dado una forma de prosa, más literario. When Allison opens the spell book, and looks at the names of the owners, she sees that there is an Elizabeth Sanderson listed after the names Winnifred, Mary and Sarah. A teen boy (with an annoying little sister) who recently moved to Salem, Massachusetts, from Southern California and doesn't believe in witches (but has a crush on a local girl who does), sets some particularly nasty witches loose on the town and has to work with crush girl, annoying sister, and a talking cat try to fix his macho boy mistake. Max, Dani and Allison (and the black cat, which of course turns out to be the immortal Thackery Bix) escape from the cottage when Max cleverly uses his lighter to set off the sprinkler system. Even the bullies get a bit more oomph, being described as kids who their kindergarten teacher best defined as persistent.
