Mir hat auch sehr gut gefallen, dass eine Packliste dabei ist, was kleine und große Entdecker auf ihrer Reise benötigen. He created the Athanasius Kircher Society which had only one session featuring Kim Peek and Joseph Kittinger.

Here are hundreds of surprising, perplexing, mind-blowing, inspiring reasons to travel a day longer and farther off the path.

Only a little disappointed with the quality of the paper, feels a bit newspaper like and is dull which doesn't do the pictures any credit. I think that it might be rather frustrating as the descriptions make you want to pack and just go there but reality being a beast and such, most of us have to resign ourselves to dreams of going there but - well, back to the illustrations. For example, visit the site of the Tunguska event in Siberia, where a meteor slammed into the earth in 1908—and then skip over to the Yucatan, ground zero for the ancient meteor crash that caused the mass extinction of dinosaurs.

Einige von euch werden sicherlich die Erwachsenen Versionen kennen, ich gehöre nicht dazu und bin so ohne Erwartungen an die Kinder Version gegangen. Mind-boggling events, like the Baby-Jumping Festival in Spain—and no, it’s not the babies doing the jumping, but masked men dressed as devils who vault over rows of squirming infants. Here are just some of our favorite new entries in Atlas Obscura, 2nd Edition, on sale now wherever books are sold. It is an entertaining travel book that makes me want to reach out of my comfort zone and begin exploring the world, but it is also filled with history on places and people that I would have not otherwise learned, which makes it all the more captivating.A very cool book that leads the reader through 47 different countries, linked by interesting/weird sites. It's the kind of book that makes you want to pack in your workaday life and head out to places you'd never have dreamed of going, to see things you could not even have imagined. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc.

In addition, the second edition includes a full-colour gatefold Atlas Obscura road trip map, with a dream itinerary. You are encouraged to emerge from the pages with eyes wide open to the possibility of discovering this fascination around you. If you can get there (the authors have advice about that), you may find, depending on the weather, only the top of the tyrant’s head poking from the snow.I first came across it in an issue of mental_floss and was lucky enough to score a copy for Christmas. But I would love to be a Traveler… you know the women, who casually walk into the terminal in a perfectly polished outfit, precisely the right time to not be early or late, zip their little tiny suitcases full of Essentials into the overheads, and then manage to somehow look like they are not on a plane for the next 4 hours. Since the 1960s, around 50 dogs have perished after leaping to their deaths from the same spot on the bridge. Even though the internet age has brought us 24 access to all things wondrous and strange, it's sometimes difficult to find things unless you know exactly what you're looking for.

The book is beautifully illustrated and focusses on all the weird and wonderful places, that makes the world of travel so interesting. Quallenseen, immerwährende Gewitter oder ein Vergnügungspark in einem Kühlturm schon eher verwunderlich. It is a collaborative project with founders Joshua Foer and Dylan Thuras, along with their community of explorers who help discover hidden spots to share with the world. I am a curious cat, maybe nosey would be a better word for me but I like to know things, I especially like to know things about bits of the world that remain under the radar.Thank you so much to NetGalley and Workman Publishing Company for the opportunity to read this book. There is an entire world out there that I haven't seen (though I have seen my fair share) and I intend to see as much of it as possible before I'm done.
